Expectations and Procedures

In my classroom I don't have rules! Rules become lists of things you aren't supposed to do.  They create a negative challenge and create the idea that there are boundaries to explore and rules can be broken. Instead I like to think of them as expectations. Expectations focus on positive wanted behavior.

Expectation 1- Follow directions quickly.

Expectation 2 - Raise your hand for permission to speak.

Expectation 3 - Raise your hand for permission to leave your seat.

Expectation 4 - Make smart choices.

Expectation 5 - Keep your dear teacher happy!

Procedures help to keep everyone safe and create a routine for success and stability.  Some procedures and routines we have are created by the school and others specifically to my classroom.

Entering the Classroom-

  • Before school - Students are not allowed inside the school until the first morning bell rings (8:15 a.m.) unless other pre-approved arrangements have been made. They will leave their backpacks in a single file line down the sidewalk in front of the outside door.

  • At all other times we enter the classroom in a single file line, with our hands at our sides and our voice levels turned down. If we are coming in from lunch, we wait for Miss Tash to let us in.
